Most (if not all) of the "experts" that will help you on this mailing list do so on a volunteer basis. Their hope is that their efforts will be magnified by multiple people having the same question will see the answer and benefit from it. Alternatively, if they are not fully expert, they hope someone else will step in and add value to their answer by supplementing or correcting it. They also know the list is archived in various places. (My favorite search tool since the start of the year is http://opensuse.markmail.org/). Direct emails for topics that are appropriate for the mailing list are therefore frowned upon unless there is a reason to keep it off the mailing list. Your question was not sensitive in anyway, so the recipients feel put upon that you would directly email them.
