cannot install OS on Lenovo Ideapad Duet 3
Hi, so just bought a small Lenovo Ideapad Duet 3. I want to replace Win with an Operating System, so I downloaded OpenSuse15.1 iso (15.1 because I have it on the other computers, to have the same). I used Suse Studio Image writer to write that ISO to an USB stick. - Start the pad so that the "Novo Button Menu" menu appears - select Boot Menu - select the stick, called "EFI USB Device (Philips USB Flash Drive)" - Opensuse Menu appears - Select Install - it says "Loading Kernel - loading initial Ram Disk" then a scrambled page filled with random characters appears after a while this disappears, the screen gets black, and nothing more happens :-( I tried with enabled and disabled secure boot. I cannot disable UEFI. How can I continue? Thanks for your help! Daniel -- Daniel Bauer photographer Basel Málaga https://www.patreon.com/danielbauer https://www.daniel-bauer.com

I'll give it a try... Still I'd love to have the same system on all of my computers that still run 15.1, so that I can easily interchange things, settings etc... -- Daniel Bauer photographer Basel Málaga https://www.patreon.com/danielbauer https://www.daniel-bauer.com

yes, I myself still run 15.1, because this install is specially fitted to my taste and 15.2 didn't pass the test - not yet tried 15.3 on this config. But as soon as I find time I will go to 15.3, I have a running server with it, with no problam. may be you computer is to recent for 15.1? jdd -- http://dodin.org

So I tried 15.3. Install went ok, but the screen has the wrong orientation. (see https://www.daniel-bauer.com/div/20210629_203830.jpg) I just did a test install, accepted everything default, and as much as I can see, it seems to work, except of the touch screen: after changing the screen orientation in kde system settings now the screen is displayed in the correct orientation, but the "touches" are wrong: it seems that the touch is still as if the screen was turned upside down in portrait mode (I touch somewhere, the cursor jumps to somewhere else on the opposite side). Touchpad works correct. So before I do the definitive install (with erasing win) I have the following questions: - how can I have the installation in the correct orientation? - how can I make the touchscreen work correct? and - what of the old partitions I must keep? (I guess everything called something with EFI, or not?) Thanks for help... -- Daniel Bauer photographer Basel Málaga https://www.patreon.com/danielbauer https://www.daniel-bauer.com
Hi daniel,

nice ;-))) it remembers me to "side pacman" for the c64 where we have to turn the television 90° to get a real pacman feeling....... ... and remember, the old tv's where huge compared to your laptop :-))))) no idea with the screen, but for the "what did i have to keep" i suggest make a complete diskdump "dd" of the whole windows plate. save it somewhere and in case of problems with hardware copy it back to have a chance to get service - remember, the "new" efi and bioses are able to remember a lot of things in background so you are not sure if they know that you have linux on the machine.... i (but i am a little old style) kill then the complete disk and put a classic linux with ext4 without efi on it. simoN Am 29.06.21 um 21:09 schrieb Daniel Bauer:

Make a full image backup with dd. If you want easy and compressed, use clonezilla. I would play safe and known, and use dd, then compress the result: mkfifo mdpipe dd if=/dev/$1 status=progress bs=16M | tee mdpipe | pigz > $1.gz & md5sum -b mdpipe | tee -a md5checksum_expanded wait rm mdpipe echo "$1" >> md5checksum_expanded echo "Verificando..." pigz --test $1.gz echo echo "·········" (this will make the laptop hot) I'll attach the script I used the last time (for a Lenovo something). Comments in Spanish, that's not a problem for you. But you have to change the partition numbers used. Just run (one line) lsblk --output NAME,KNAME,RA,RM,RO,PARTFLAGS,SIZE,TYPE,FSTYPE,LABEL,PARTLABEL,PTTYPE,MOUNTPOINT,UUID,PARTUUID,WWN,MODEL,ALIGNMENT | tee somefile.txt and attach "somefile.txt" back, and I'll adjust the script for you. But it is really simple. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.2 x86_64 at Telcontar)

- how can I make the touchscreen work correct?
Provide full output of "udevadm info --export-db". Are you using Xorg or Wayland? If Xorg, output of xinput would be interesting as well.

If the storage is not a big deal to change, remove it, and put a different one in. If you need Windows for something, such as for a warranty claim, you can switch it back before submitting. Once you know you won't need Windows any more, you can use it as backup storage. To dd an image of Windows first presumes you have a place to put it, and imaging and image restoration are no big deal. It makes more sense to me to invest in another storage device that can be quick changed, and have Windows as a backup at least until the warranty expires. -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science. Did you remember to read the comments, to see if somebody else has tried Linux? I forgot to tell you this. I would try 15.2 (no surprises compared to 15.1), and newer, maybe your machine is too new. If not, 15.3. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.2 x86_64 at Telcontar)
