Correct. Especially as I am using the USB->PS/2 adaptor.
actual choice (for normal response is) IMPS/2 (or LogitechMouseManPS/2 -depends on how you brave to struggle for wheel) for protocol /dev/input/mice or /dev/input/event0 (sometime as device)
mapping for buttons 4 5 in Az mapping section
But here's the hanger: I can't even properly re-run Sax, as the mouse does not behave correctly while in Sax. As soon as I touch it, it leaps to the top of the screen and tucks itself in the upper-right corner, and stays there. So I can't even complete a fresh run of Sax to get back vanilla 3-button mouse behavior. Note that just bringing up the system after switching mice was no problem. X just saw it as another 3-button PS/2 mouse. Ermf. The odd thing is _where_ is Sax/X gettting the bad mouse info _from_? I have completely reverted the /etc/XF86Config file. TIA. Michael -- Michael Fischer Happiness is a config option. michael@visv.net Recompile and be happy.

Try to change protocol to be IMPS/2 and why you using sax? You running XFree3? if not - sax2 would be more appropriate choice (i am running same mouse but i am using XiG's X server for now :) its way better)
Cheers, Sergei -- Oh, well, I guess this is just going to be one of those lifetimes.

If you're running XFree86 v 4.x try /etc/X11/XF86Config (you don't need an /etc/XF86Config at all ). ---------------------------------------------------- Jonathan Wilson System Administrator Cedar Creek Software http://www.cedarcreeksoftware.com Central Texas IT http://www.centraltexasit.com

I have had a problem that seems identical to your. I wish I could tell you exactly how I solved it (I did and have a happy logitech weel-mouse with the weel working perfectly) but as I tried so many things and was installing NVIDIA drivers at the same time, I am not sure what fixed the problem. But, I can say this: I ran sax2 (sax should be similar) without the mouse (alt+Tab will allow you to go between applications without the mouse). I had to logout of my account after making changes for the mouse to go back to normal--and perhaps ones to reboot completely (or was that because of the NVIDIA drivers). Anyway, I choose a weel mouse--actually, I experimented with several settings--and the added manually the line Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" My /etc/X11/XF86Config (not the etc/XF86Config as someone suggested) mouse segment now looks like this (note I've commented out a couple of lines): Section "InputDevice" Driver "mouse" Identifier "Mouse[1]" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" # Option "Emulate3Buttons" "on" # Option "Emulate3Timeout" "50" Option "InputFashion" "Mouse" Option "Name" "MOUSEMAN WHEEL" Option "Protocol" "imps/2" Option "Vendor" "LOGITECH" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection and this runs like a dream.
