I have just installed 5.3 and haven't totally mastered the configuration. My kernel is set up with PPP and SLIP support, properly compiled and boots nominally. I see the messages about PPP and SLIP and nothing appears wrong. The modem is a Diamond Supra Express 336i PnP asvd. When I try to access the modem by checking my email (diald is installed...don't know yet how to configure it) I get nowhere. The generic mail client locks up and can't do a check, so I have to shut down the session and restart. When I use Kppp, it says my modem is busy. I WANT to be using xfMail but haven't installed it yet. I used YaST to set this thing up and believe it is all correctly done. I checked the Activate box (even tried leaving it unchecked) but I can't dial out. What can I do differently (read "correctly") ? Thanks. I used to have the same modem as you, and I was _never_ able to get it to work properly in linux. I had it working ONCE, and then it never worked again. I bought an external modem and I never had a problem up til the time I quit using ppp. If your modem is the same one I had it's an isa modem, in which case you need to configure isapnp to initialize it. There is an isapnp howto in the howto package on your S.u.S.E. discs, or you can get it at sunsite. Steve Mills wrote:

Along with the note I sent you, Michael, I just checked the 5.3 manual (best I've ever seen) and it covers ISApnp setup. Won't be easy, but I can do it. I got this far. :) Thanks. *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** On 8/30/98, at 8:53 PM, Michael Lankton wrote:
