[opensuse] Follow up on 11.2 kde3 x86_64 menu and control panel issue
Listmates, Just a follow-up. After wiping and reinstalling 11.2 on my x86_64 laptop, I now have kde3 menus and control center module entries. When I reinstalled 11.2 I moved my /home directory to force a rebuild of everything (kinda defeats the purpose of preserving home...). The menus are there and all control center modules are present and work. However, it looks like I'm still missing an icon theme, but all is good with kde3. (now if drm and the radeonhd driver would boot, I might be able to use it :-) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Hi David I didn't monitor the original report, but I'm trying to give kmenuedit some love and reviewing all its bug reports leads me to believe that a bug in merging user edited menus would cause messed up kde3 menus, kcontrol modules, and kde3 screensavers. If this describes your issue and you see this again, try moving aside the contents of ~/.local/share/desktop-directories/ (preserving them for me to autopsy). Will do will, To summarize the original problem, when I originally installed kde3, the install went fine, but all menu entries were blank and all control center modules were missing. Even 'kcmshell --list' returned nothing. I tore kde3 apart. I mean I went through every frigging directory under /opt/{bin,share/{config,config.kcfg},env} etc... and /etc/X11 comparing the contents to my working kde3 installs and everything was there and accounted for. But, for some reason everything was was blank in the menus and control center. I could call the individual control center modules individually (from the command line) and they would work, but no matter what I tried, I couldn't find a way to populate the menus. By contrast, I did an i586 install as well, and then menus and control center modules were there. Go figure?? Thank you very, very much for giving kde3 some attention. While I primarily use kde4, having kde3 configured and working really helps kde4 function right when accessing the kde3 apps like quanta, kde3/kate, etc.. I'll pass along any other info I can.
