I'm running the 30 day trial download of VMware 2.02, and I can't get it to see my IDE CD-ROM drive, or my Win98 d: and e: drives. All it sees is the Win98 c: drive. Also, it only displays 16 colors in Win98, and it doesn't see my modem. Is the 30 day trial demo crippleware, or am I doing something wrong here? I'm having VMware access an lready installed Win98 on a separate partition, rather than Win98 installed from within VMware. Hi All At the moment installing one of the following programs will enable Windows program to be run from Linux, I have not tested any yet. VMware 2.0 $US 99 for students & home user, $US 299 for others http://www.vmware.com/ Win4Lin 1.0 $90 http://www.win4lin.com/ Both VMware & Win4Lin run windows operating system (OS) under or within Linux & you need a Pentium. But Wine will run without a windows OS and will run on a 486 with 32 meg of ram. Wine $US free http://www.winehq But you can not run the latest version of Internet Explorer #5 (yet?) on Wine because it is so tightly integrated into Windows, the magazine say Microsoft Word will run OK, the Internet address above for Wine will give more information on what programs work. Information in this Email came from a monthly magazine called "Australia Personal Computer" August 2000 All three programs came on the cover CD Each month there are two CD's sometimes three http://apcmag.com
From Eric Disclaimer: The closest contact I have with APC is I look forward to buying the latest month magazine in the shops & reading it.
