Cat5 is Cat5 - it's a standard cable spec, category 5 relates to the cable transmission properties. You'd be better advised to buy a 15 Metre cross-over cable as having joins in a network cable, although possible, is not really advisable. Having said that, I made a cross-over adapter with two RJ45s mounted in shells which seems to work ok for non-critical work. I am sorry for the off topic question, but you all are my networking experts!
I have two PCs that are currently connected by a 6 foot cross-over ethernet cable (cat 5?) through my 10Mbit ethernet cards. I have moved my second PC about 30 feet away from my main PC and want to network them together again.
Any recommendations on pre-made Cat5 cabling, or things I should watch out for? I have a Female-Female RJ45 connector, so I was going to purchase a regular 50 foot Cat5 cable, not a cross-over, and connect it to my existing cross-over cable.
