Ripping CDs: alternatives to kaudiocreator
Does the SuSE distribution include any better alternatives for ripping tracks from CDs than kaudiocreator (which comes in the kmultimedia package for KDE)? The kaudiocreator program has several drawbacks: 1. It seems to be hardwired to read from /dev/cdrom; I can't find any way of telling it to read from anywhere else. 2. It has no documentation that I can find. 3. It doesn't allow for ripping just the initial part of a track. Paul Abrahams

Paul, I use grip. I am not sure if it comes with all SuSE distros. I do belive it is in 9.0 though. http://nostatic.org/grip/ I think it does a good job and it also will create Ogg Vorbis encodings as well as mp3. It's very configurable. -- Marc C. http://www.mecworks.com/
Alive and well in 8.2. Works fine with the correct lame MP3 encoder. CWSIV On Tue, 2003-12-30 at 21:54, Marc Christensen wrote:

Check out grip for ripping and then use audacity to split tracks any way you want. If desired, use K3B to write CDs. Good luck. Don Henson
