Hi everyone.
Epson 760 printer. One month later with 7.0 and still no output.
When I configure the printer with Yast2, here is the outut in /var/log/messages
Nov 9 20:07:29 linux kernel: parport0: PC-style at 0x378 [SPP,PS2] Nov 9 20:07:29 linux kernel: parport_probe: succeeded Nov 9 20:07:29 linux kernel: parport0: Printer, EPSON Stylus COLOR 760 Nov 9 20:07:29 linux kernel: lp0: using parport0 (polling). ------------snip------------------ Nov 9 20:10:52 linux lpd: apsfilter: unable to print job testpg.ps
Am I doing anything wrong? I have an Award BIOS set to SPP with interrupt 7 at 378. I have the new Yast2 downloads too and a ticket open with SuSE on the matter. If anyone can help then I'd be really grateful. It works fine under windos however. I'm not new to Linux either and have installed many a friend's machine without too many problems but this just has to be something deeper!
Thanks, Steve.

Hi everyone,
Since upgrading to SuSE 7.0 I have had trouble with the printer and I can't find out why any help or pointers of any kind will be greatly appreciated.
I have one printer HP520 that apparently sets up fine under Yast2 and prints out a nice little page with a gecko on it but after that trying to print anything as user is impossible as root everything works fine but I don't want to write my documents then log out to log back in as root just to print them. I have tried the following as root
# ls -l >/dev/lp0
works just fine so I know the port and printer are working.
as user it doesn't work unless I change the permissions on /dev/lp0 then it works as user. I don't know if I should do this but it doesn't help my overall problems anyway.
I then tried checking status of the printers and got the following which seems ok apart from the entry in the ascii spool. Doesn't mean anything to me.
richard@localhost:~ > lpc status ascii: queuing is enabled printing is disabled 1 entry in spool area no daemon present lp: queuing is enabled printing is enabled no entries no daemon present raw: queuing is enabled printing is enabled no entries no daemon present richard@localhost:~ >
Tried listing lpd and have no idea where yast got this lot from I'm sure I only had 3 entries in here when I was running 6.4. I'm afraid to delete them in case I take out the abiliy of root to print and then I would be really stuck.

Is the user 'richard' a member of the group 'lp'? Maybe a solution?...
