Hi all, I've got ASUS A7V133 mobo with onboard Promise FastTrack100 RAID 0 controller(http://www.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A7V133) and all SuSE 's Box do not boot if any HDD is attached to the RAID controller... (RAID is not configured in 0 or 1 mode but i use it to controller separately my HDD ok?), but if CDROM is attached work fine. I need to pass any parameter/module in lilo os linux prompt? Regards. []'s anckerDJ P.s.: no work in boot installed system or new installation ---> never work any situation.
I have an MSI K7T266 Pro2-RU with the Promise 20265R on-board FastTrack100 RAID controller with SuSE 8.1, 8.0 and 7.3. When installing I manually delete the ataraid and the pdcraid modules. You should be able to delete these modules on an installed system by booting to the CD/DVD and choosing to "boot the installed system". The hard drives are used as non-RAID drives and boot and load fine. I have my CD-RW and DVD drives on the VIA ATA controllers to use all 4 ATA controllers on-board. HTH Stan Marcelo Simon wrote:

Hi again :^), If you start a new installation with attached HDD in Promise controller (do not enable RAID feature) it's work? In my case NO, but if attached a CD/DVD in HDD Promise controller... work fine. Why? I used my system BIOS to create each HDD on the Promise controller as a RAID-0 stripe. Then during SuSE install I ABORT during the "partitioning/time zone/software selection" which dumps me back to a menu that allows me to remove the ataraid and pdcraid modules. I then choose the fresh install option and it works. If I allow the ataraid/pdcraid modules to load, neither grub nor lilo can figure out the correct parameters to boot off any of the drives (neither can I!). The work around controller settings I had for 8.0 didn't work for 8.1 so I just removed the offending modules. All my data survives so I know its a driver/module issue and may even be specific to my mainboard/BIOS combo. I've never tried a DVD/CD on the Promise controller. Since its not a HDD, the ataraid/pdcraid drivers probably ignore it and don't interfere. Stan Marcelo Simon wrote:

Thanks Stan, But in my case the boot stop before this stage. Without more info from system logs I don't think I can help anymore. Have you verified master/slave jumpers and each device is at the end of the ATA cable? I know some systems require IDE devices use "cable select" instead of master/slave jumpers. Have you verified that you have the latest system BIOS, Promise firmware and drivers? In my system I have to configure the drives with the Promise BIOS utility as some type of RAID otherwise they aren't recognized by any OS. WinXP working is a clue. It may also be a hardware configuration issue such as the IDE device settings where Windows is more tolerant. Stan Marcelo Simon wrote:
