SuSE 8 issues...(minor quesitons and a rant)
First, some specific questions: 1. Just installed SuSE 8.0--realized that I miss the old Yast **very much** in that it could install a whole list of rpms off my machine (specifically, my backup directory) with very little trouble. Any alternatives? 2. Why, after rpm -e abiword version < 1.00 can I not rpm -ivh abiword
1.00 (1.0.2 to be exact)? Even with the --nodeps flag I get a 'conflicting dependency' error (old abi fonts in a directory I deleted).
3. Is there any *informative* sites that help with the upgrade from 7.3 to 8.0? I am having problems with upgrading evolution (the version that came with 8.0 will not allow me to update my addressbook OR calendar) and OOffice, etc. Thanx in advance. Now the rant/warning: When installing Mozilla with an installer, never never never EVER tell it to delete the older version in /opt as it deletes the whole directory (including Gnome, KDE, OOffice, etc.). It was this problem that caused me to chunk my mobo (I was nursing a problem which prevented me from recovering from losing /opt when it occured. Details if you want them...) and upgrade almost everything (the mobo had an ISA slot which sat in an AT case which...you get my drift). So, since I was upgrading most of my base hardware, I picked up SuSE 8.0 personal from CompUSA to upgrade my 7.3 system. I am *still* trying to get used to it--I miss the functionality of Yast1 and I am getting wierd package errors... rant/warning off/ Thanx for letting me vent...

comand line, i.e. rpm -Uvh *.rpm will install a bunch, much like Yast. Don't know of a GUI that will do a bunch (and rpm doesn't give you the indication if your installed package is older than the new :-( ) -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM. Yes it does. If you do rpm -Uvh on a package it will only install if it's "newer" (read: has a higher version number) than the installed version. You need to add additional flags if you want to downgrade to older packages. //Anders
