What you said. IPv6 enabled on the machine or network, yet no IPv6 to the outside. And a "host" query would return both IPv6/4 addresses, and the software would try the "6". It happened with zypper some years ago.
Telcontar:~ # host download.opensuse.org download.opensuse.org has address 195.135.221.134 download.opensuse.org has IPv6 address 2620:113:80c0:8::13
Do you have an IPv6 address, other than link local? If yes, how are you getting it?
Telcontar:~ # ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:21:85:16:2D:0B inet addr:192.168.1.14 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::221:85ff:fe16:2d0b/64 Scope:Link inet6 addr: fc00::14/64 Scope:Global -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. That's a unique local address, the IPv6 equivalent of IPv4 RFC 1918 addresses. Where did it come from? The cable modem I have from my ISP will provide those in gateway mode, but they'd also provide public GUA addresses. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Manual setting long ago, for testing. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.3 x86_64 "Malachite" at Telcontar)

So, it's a self inflicted problem. ;-) BTW, you should be able to get an IPv6 tunnel. Hurricane Electric is a popular choice and they have offices around the world. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Maybe, maybe not. :-) I don't remember if I added that address before or after I changed gai.conf. And I did that after other people were telling here of the problem and then someone found the gai.conf change. The other people did not have an IPv6 local address like I did.

Is it free (gratis)? If not, I'll wait for my ISP to provide IPv6 one of these decades, thanks ;-p - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. Yes. Click on "Free IPv6 Tunnel Broker". https://he.net

My ISP has provided IPv6 for a bit over 2 years. Prior to that, I used a tunnel, though from a different provider. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I don't know of any ISP in Spain providing IPv6 to home clients. Maybe businesses if they request it. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
