Hi Landy, Which printer is it? (model?) dozens are existing. Are you using cups or lpr? Did you set up the printer with YaST2? Or with which other tool? When setting up with YaST2 you can deselect color - maybe you did this erroneously?; it defaults to color, though. Hey, we need details:-) Cheers .... Hi Landy, If you don't manage to get it to work with lpr, I would strongly recommend switching to cups. Then, have a look at http://www.linuxprinting.org , and look for this model, and get yourself a driver (ppd.gz-file) for this model, to copy it to the/usr/share/cups/model/HP/ directory. Then the driver should be available in YaST2 Cheers .... Hi once more, I just had a look into my YaST2 on SuSE 7.3 The driver for the HP DeskJet 640C is not present there, so getting a driver from linuxprinting.org seems to be the most promising way. This printer model apparently is newer than SuSE 7.3, so do it that way and I think you should achieve maximum performance:-) http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-DeskJet_640C Cheers .... Hi, Once I was in a similar situation, except my printer is a Canon, not HP. Since I was using lpr and YaST2, all other factors are the same; I don't believe that being usb would have any effect in this case. Go to YaST2, Hardware, Edit Printers. If it is not highlighted yet, highlight your printer. Click on Edit. On the right side, click on Settings. In the top panel, the line with 'drivers', it probably says 'Monochrome' or something similar. In the bottom panel there are some printers listed; click on the appropriate one (in my case is "color driver 'uniprint'", but the wording for HP is probably different). You may click on 'Test' and see the result right away. Don't forget to click on 'Next' to make it effective.
