weird Konqeror behavior as file manager
Hello: I have an extremely annoying problem with Konqueror: When using it as a file manager to view a file (text or image), as a regular user, the screen will go blank gray when I move the focus to a different window. For example, when I have documenation for a package open in Konqueror and move the focus to an editor to edit a configuration file, or to a consol window to enter something on the command line. This behavior does not occur when I have the file open in Mozilla or Galeon. Nor does it happen when I'm running Konqueror in super user mode. Simply moving the focus back to Konqueror is not enough to get the text back. I can bring the text back by reloading the file or scrolling up or down past the missing part. If the Konqueror window is partially covered by the other window the portion of text that was covered by the other window does reappear when I move the focus back to Konqueror. I'm currently running SuSE 9.0, but I had the same problem when I was running 8.2. The machine is an Athlon with an ATI Radeon 7500 graphics card. It worked fine under 7.2 and earlier. I've searched the list archives, alt.os.linux.suse, and google without finding any reference to this kind of problem. Does anybody have any hints as to what might be happening and how to fix it? What color depth are you running? and what kind of monitor? That is very odd behavior for that card. Its the same chipset that I use in this machine and it works great. Is this a laptop? -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

It's an IBM T750 LCD monitor (not a laptop) running at 1280x1024 resolution @ 60hz as recommended in the manual. Color depth is 24 bit, 3-D disabled, and I'm using the digital, not the analog, input. Your questions did cause me to change the color depth to 16 bit and that seems to have solved the problem when text files are open although it's still there when I open jpg files. I can live with this although I'd really like to fix the problem completely. George -- George H.
