Gertjan, I have mostly stayed out of this discussion, but this is a bit much. Given that no change of purpose for opensuse@o.o has been announced, proposed nor discussed, I think you are being insincere in attempting to reroute traffic, thereby unnecessarily splitting our community. The new support list has been announced, now leave it to the community to decide. If people find the support offered on opensuse-support@o.o to be more readily available or perhaps even better than here, they will migrate by themselves. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (18.9°C) member, openSUSE Heroes. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

During previous discussions about the focus and tone of this list, it was clearly vocalised that as opensuse@ is a general support list there should be some leniency to allow general discussions in the name of freedom of speech and anti-censorship It seems clear to me that it is this freedom which Gertjan is exercising with his polite suggestion regarding support posts. Any demand for him to do otherwise runs counter to the ethos I have come to understand this list values, and it would also seem to run counter to the Project's general guiding principles that the project values "open development", "self organisation", "choice" and "respect for others and their contributions, for other options and beliefs" I would therefore expect that anyone else suggesting the use of opensuse-support@ should be accepted, if not welcomed, as long as they do so in a polite tone and without demanding. agree the -support makes it clear what it's for, for newcomers that do not know opensuse history that it will fix the problems is an other thing jdd -- http://dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

The only issue I see here is one regarding fragmentation. If users new to openSUSE subscribe to opensuse-support@o.o looking for support when the majority of users subscribed for support purposes are on opensuse@o.o, it creates such a situation where the support for new users can potentially turn out to be of a lesser value and they may not get their questions answered which at the end of the day doesn't help the distribution. So either I would suggest this list gets repurposed for something else, in time, and we all subscribe to opensuse-support@o.o.com, or opensuse-support@o.o gets shut down. My opinion is an email address with specificity isn't a bad thing. The "support" in "opensuse-support@o.o" is specific in terms of what it's to be used for without a new user even needing to read the description. opensuse@o.o sounds very general and vague. If somebody new to the disro weren't to read the description for what the intended purpose of the list is for, for all they know, emails may be going to the board itself. For instance, on Debian, their user support address is: debian-user@lists.debian.org. For Fedora, users@lists.fedoraproject.org and Ubuntu, ubuntu-users@lists.ubuntu.com <mailto:ubuntu-users@lists.ubuntu.com>. I see no issue subscribing to the new list, besides the current lack of subscribers which can quickly change with more community dialogue. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Is this the same Richard Brown that got more than one person banned from this list for not towing his line? Now appealing to freedom of speech? How delicious. -- After all is said and done, more is said than done. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
