You didn't mention what kind of card you have. One note: the HOWTO mentions that some cards require the OLD configuration (i.e. not make xconfig or make menuconfig just make config) I also needed to load the DOS PnP driver before loadlin to get my Acer Aw32 (CS4232) to be initialized. pretty carefuly, but like I say, am obviously leaving somethiong out.
