Yes. Meanwhile I got me a new used Lenovo T470 and clean-installed TW on one of a 1gb Samsung e860 ssd partitions (identical to what I have in my desktop). Then I just dd'd that installation over to my desktop ssd and ...bingo, Audacity works on TW on both machines. I do have a backup image of the old TW made about a month ago so if my life depended on it I 'could' revert to that and do more trouble-shooting.
