Re: [SLE] RFI about CD/R or RW
I'm glad I could help. If you plan on copying CD's, you will want to check out the following URL. It came in handy when I needed to copy a Linux CD. Some CD drives cannot read "all" the information on a CD and thus cannot produce an exact copy of a CD. The following URL lists the different CD drives and their capabilities of reproducing an "exact" copy. http://www.elby.de/CloneCD/english/hardware.htm Enjoy, Matt

thanx for the tip about that site, it is a gold mine.
I will not buy the HP 8100i CD-RW, now!

My wife bought me an HP 9100i CD-RW and I love it, but I don't have any experience with any other brands.
Check out the following URL: http://www.cdmediaworld.com
Click either Cdmediaworld Mirror #1 or #2.
This site has everything you could ever want. It tells you what CD-RW drives are the best; what CD media is the best, the best software, etc.
Many manufacturers use the exact same hardware and the above site will point this out. (example: the HP CD-RW drives use Sony hardware).
Enjoy, Matt

I am about to buy a CD-R or RW & am wanting feedback about the quality or otherwise, of various brands & the support services offered to you by their makers.
TIA.

ive got a hp 8210i and it works great in linux and winders and i have never found a cd that i couldnt copy yet as a backup.. a good gui for linux would be gcombust do a search at freshmeat.net for it you wont be disappointed in it.. and for winders use clonecd and nero and also cdrwin they are all good programs to use for burning.. cdrecord in linux really is a good program they even have a winders version of it now..
