The headline reads: --------------- SuSE Linux Professional 9.3, due out on Wednesday, will include a desktop search tool and iPod support ------------- Interesting.... wonder where that came from. I doubt it will include KDE 3.4 if it is so close to being announced,
unless they went ahead and included RC1.

Well, release dates are rather cast in stone at SUSE too. But believe me, if the release date had been fixed yet, it would have been announced much more directly then by informing ZDNet. Philipp -- Philipp Thomas SUSE LINUX Products GmbH
Some clarification on the whole 9.3 release thing.... http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/03/10/suse_linux/ Seems like the ZDNet guys got a little confused :-)

That bothers me not even slightly. I get great long distance rates with a tool the phone company believes no longer works.

Which is why I've avoided mobile phones and do just about everything I can via Email. Although those new Blackberrys are looking awefully nice :-) Regards, Ben

It hasn't, and I'm equally surprised. I guess I would have preferred the 9.3 as a YOU update. But maybe they're hiring more developers, and need financing? Max

A new Professional version is released every 6 months. A new Novell Linux Desktop version is released every 1.5 or 2 years. Professional is for "home users, sysadmins, software developers, technical enthusiasts". That is people who want the latest and greatest (like me). NLD is for "commercial environment", ie production use on desktops of non-IT people. Stability is paramount, code base is shared with SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server.

Or they could be releasing it to coincide with the Cebit opening up in Hannover, Germany. I don't remember them doing this before, but it could happen. Yeah that was quick. And what happens after 9.3? Two digit integers for the version number? Ick. I don't like big version numbers. I think they should start over at 0.001 and increment that 999 times before reaching version 1.0. -- A: Maybe because some people are too annoyed by top-posting.
