[SLE] OpenOffice doesn't print A5 on Lexmark Optra S1650 (set as A5)
Indeed IMpatient, thanks :-D Martin ---------------- Nobody any idea or am I too unpatient? Martin ---------------- Hi(gh) Society, I have a little problem. I just bought a used Lexmark Optra S1650 laser printer, which works basically just fine, after having installed everything necessary. But I'd like to print out of Open Office in A5. The pages are set up as A5, the printer is set up as A5 and if I export it into pdf I can just print it correctly as expected through Acrobat Reader, but I can't directly through Open Office. I already tried to set up another print command inside OOo (BTW 1.1.3), it simply doesn't change anything. I do not get the corresponding Lexmark printer driver dialog. So, my question: Can I and if where set the command so that it will work? Thanks Martin -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

If the issue is an Open Office one, I think you should ask the Open
office mailing list at
users@openoffice.org

I have the Optra S 1855 versus your Optra S 1650 but I did duplicate the behavior. The 1855 has a removeable main paper tray that has a manual adjustment for paper size in it. Set for US Letter it will only print US Letter. No error messages appear when I tried A4 or A5. Looked like something got sent but the wheels spun and no traction was given to the paper in the tray. Quickly manufactured some A5 size paper (length wise), readjusted the paper tray to A5 and viola! It prints. YMMV, Stan

Well, the behaviour I get here is: Everything goes well until the actual print should be done. I mean it checks the papersize wants to have A4 just gets A5 and shows an error message on the display of the printer that it wants A4. If I give it to the printer it prints, but that's not what I want. Regards Martin

Firstly does kprint support A5 for your printer? i.e When you go to print in a kde application and you get the print dialog box up and go to "Properties-->General-->Page size" does it show A5 as an option? ============================================ If it does you should be able to set up a printer instance for your printer using the lpoption command lpoptions -p <printer>/a5 -o media=a5 Replace <printer> with the name of your printer queue Now if you at your printer list you will see another printer listed with /a5 extension - use that when you want to print A5. Please refer to the cups Software Users Manual for "Printer Instances" http://localhost:631/sum.html#5_7 This is a very handy option as it allow you to specify a special set of options to do a specific task, without the hassle of remembering and setting the options each time. I use it for things like duplex printing and setting page sizes, it makes life a bit easier. ============================================= If the A5 page is not listed, there is a problem with your ppd file. I could not see your printer listed at http://www.linuxprinting.org/ so I don't know what ppd file you are using. It is possible to modify your ppd file to include a A5 page size but it is not for the faint hearted. The best thing to do is see if there is another ppd file available that supports A5 for your printer. If not let me know and I will see if I can help you adding the A5 page support to your ppd file. Can't guarantee anything. -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------

That is the reason you can't print A5. Can you indicate which ppd file you are using for this printer and what it is compatible with. Have you tried any other ppd with this printer? If you send the ppd file to me privately I MAY be ale to add in A5 paper support. -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------
