What is the best way for issuing an SSL cert for Apache 1.3? I got the "test" cert working, but would rather issue one from myself. Are there any other issue I need to know before making ssl openly available to the public on my server? I'm running Suse 8.2, Apache 1.3, KDE. Many thanks, -- Jim Flanagan linuxjim@jjfiii.com

Pray read "Apache2 with SSL/TLS: Step by Step": http://www.securityfocus.com/infocus/1818 (part 1) http://www.securityfocus.com/infocus/1820 (part 2) http://www.securityfocus.com/infocus/1823 (part 3) Written for Apache 2.x but it will probably still answer all your questions. In part 2 you will learn how to set up a private certificate authority. Regards, Guido -- Imperia AG, Development Leyboldstr. 10 - D-50354 Hürth - http://www.imperia.net/

On 9.2 there is a file /usr/share/doc/packages/apache2/QUICKSTART.SSL and another one /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/vhost-ssl.template. They might help you to get things going on SuSE. The rest is really not a bit SuSE specific, any Apache documentation will be okay. Ciao, Guido -- Imperia AG, Development Leyboldstr. 10 - D-50354 Hürth - http://www.imperia.net/

Thanks for the good info Guido. Will work with the quickstart info. The links you sent are also of great assistance as I do need to understand ssl from an overall perspecitve. -- Jim Flanagan linuxjim@jjfiii.com
