snip The solution below from C. Rodriguez
worked like a charm!

Help is appreciated, as I purchased this computer specifically to do an audio project!
do this as root, ensure you have the official "updates" repository already configured.
# zypper sa -r http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/multimedia:/audio/openSUSE_10.3_Up...
# zypper ref
# zypper in alsa alsa-oss alsa-driver-kmp-default alsa-plugins libasound2 alsa-utils
reboot\
This solution was great. My wife has an HP dv2000 with the "waikiki" chip and I've been struggling with the mike and sound for a couple of years. I had not gotten the mike to work well and was hoping for a simple way to keep the alsa driver updated. This is an excellent solution. Can it be addded to one of the standard community repositories like the webcam drivers, etc? Gustav Nry隊Z)z{.ﮞ˛m)z{.+Z+ib*'jW(fvǦj)hǾi
