[S.u.S.E. Linux] Adaptec 2940UW
Hi All, I getting a Adaptec 2940UW controler card next week and I would like to know if this SCSI controler card is supported in 2.0.33-SuSE (version 5.2). If so, how come I didn't see a driver when I did a prelimary 'make config' ? If it is not supported what kernel version supports this SCSI controler card? Thank you in advance for your help. Best regards, -Chris -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
Chris, It is indeed supported, and since 2.0.0. The chipset is Adaptec AIC-7880P. Cheers James

Unless, there is a compelling reason for buying Adaptec, I would suggest buying an adapter with the Symbios Logic chips (aka NCR 53c8xx chips). They are cheaper and well supported by almost all the x86 OSs [I have 5 of them based on 53C810 thru 53c875 chipset]. IMHO, I have had better experience with them under Win95/NT/Linux compared to Adaptec. As for Adaptec, a few months ago I bought a machine that came with Adaptec 2940UW and pre-configured with Win95. I have had nothing but problems with it, e.g. random lock up. Upgrading to the latest Win95 drivers has not helped. The machine has gone back to vendor twice, they have replaced the SCSI card twice as well the HD and the CDROM. I plan to install SuSE 5.1 on it and see if I fare any better :) HTH Arun Khan -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
