[opensuse] New cd/dvd recording software
Hey all 10.2 users! Have you perchance had an opportunity to use k3b with the new burning software included with 10.2? Wodim is the program being used now instead of cdrecord. I haven't been able to find much info on wodim, except for forums or emails complaining about it not working or kernel versions causing the change to wodim. bye, Lee -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It is written by the same author, and it provides the same, i.e. joe@jmorris:~> rpm -q --provides wodim cdrecord wodim = 1.0pre5cvs-6

It works fine here. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes

It is written by the same author, According to this, it is not: http://lwn.net/Articles/198171/. It seems to be a Debian fork of cdrtools, written to remove CDDL licencing which, in the opinion of everyone except Jorg Schilling (author of cdrtools), is not GPL-compatible.

Yes, that is what I found also Darryl. Don't know why the SUSE packagers continue to mention Jorg in the file or said it was his, since wodim is not associated with him except it's a fork from his original cdrecord. I suppose k3b still hasn't made the change yet, since there is a symlink of cdrecord to wodim in SUSE's rpm. cdrkit is the new fork including all the previous files, cdda2wav, mkisofs, etc. cdrtools was Jorg's version. bye -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Otherwise, a lot of people would have to rewrite a lot of scripts right away, and nothing would work until it was done. Having the link means they can do that at their leisure, while things continue to work.

Good point. I just updated the Package Database, to mention Joerg Jaspert and his team. thanks, Jw. -- o \ Juergen Weigert paint it green! __/ _=======.=======_ <V> | jw@suse.de wide open suse_/ _---|____________\/ \ | 0911 74053-508 (tm)__/ (____/ /\ (/) | __________________________/ _/ \_ vim:set sw=2 wm=8 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Works just as "few" as the regular cdrecord SUSE packaged. IOW, it still does not support DVD+R/DL and profile naming. # cdrecord -dev=/dev/hdb -dao -v /proc/kcore Device seems to be: Generic mmc2 DVD-R/DVD-RW. Jan, you may want to forward your comments to http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/debburn-devel This is the bugzilla inbox for wodim upstream. cheers, Jw. On Dec 17, 06 14:00:00 +0100, Jan Engelhardt wrote:
