[opensuse] rdesktop on 11.0 to WinXP with -A -s 'seamlessrdpshell app.exe' not working?
Listmates, rdesktop is an excellent application. I am trying to get the seamless mode worked out but I am running into problems. When I try to connect in seamless mode I end up getting a full-screen display of the entire windows desktop. I am using: rdesktop -u david -g 1280x800 -E -x l \ -A -s 'seamlessrdpshell notepad.exe' \ ripper.3111skyline.com & All of the documentation I have read say this should work. I can get a semi-seamless result when switching between normal and seamless mode, which is pretty cool. Having the kicker running on the bottom of the screen and the WinXP Taskbar and menu available on the top edge of the screen is pretty impressive. However the seamless mode gets fritzed out when launching seamless applications. (Don't run compiz at the same time -- very interesting results) Has anybody else had luck launching single apps in seamless mode? Are, am I completely reading something the wrong way. Thanks. I will get back to all my backlogged emails soon, work has reared its ugly head lately... -- David C. One more tidbit: For those that haven't tried rdesktop, "zypper in rdesktop" will install it, then something similar to this for accessing a host across a LAN from the command line or with alt+f2 gives great results: rdesktop ripper.3111skyline.com -u david -g 1280x800 -E -x l You can also specify -p password on the command line and it will log in for you. The options are important for great performance and full desktop background, etc. The options above do: -u: user name -g: desktop geometry (WxH) -E: disable encryption from client to server -x: RDP5 experience (m[odem 28.8], b[roadband], l[an] or hex nr.) My desire for looking into rdesktop was to find a way to 'restart' a dual boot host remotely so that it would restart in linux with the proper /boot/grub/menu.lst options set. With rdesktop, you do not have the option to shutdown from the normal windows menu (just logout or disconnect), but rdesktop passes ctrl+alt+delete perfectly to bring the task manager up which gives you the shutdown option. Believe it or not, winXP runs just as fast across the lan with rdesktop as it does sitting at the keyboard of the machine. I'm not even using a wired network connection, I'm simply connecting with my wireless from my laptop. This is really one slick app. ( unfortunately, the KDE4/krdc kind of sucks, it takes way to much screen real estate, even with all the toolbars turned off ) Running from alt+f2 or the command line gives a perfect window to run in -- no waste. The full screen option works great as well (but why would anyone want to turn a full display over to that...) For window geometry, my laptop is 1440x900, so the choice of 1280x800 works perfectly, plenty of room left around the edges for doing what you need. -- David C.
