Rpm seems to load but they don't. How come?
I am having some trouble installing some .rpm files that I downloaded from packman. I was able to install about 200 packages with no problems but am having problems with about 20. I am using SUSE 9.3. Below is the commands and the output. In short I type rpm -Uhv d*.rpm and the packages seem to load, however, rpm -qa cannot find them and they don't seem to have installed afterall. Typing rpm -Uhv d*.rpm again doesn't give me a the package is already loaded error message. Yast seems to have the same problem, ie, seems to install the package but can't find it later. So why would everything indicate that a package is being loaded into the system when it is not? --------------- computer output ------------ linux:/share1/9.3/updates # rpm -Uhv d*.rpm warning: divx4linux-20030428-0.pm.0.src.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 5277a2fa warning: dvd-slideshow-0.7.1-0.pm.1.src.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID cd3140cd warning: dvdshrink-2.6.0-0.pm.1.src.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 27db6f5b 1:divx4linux warning: user manfred does not exist - using root ########################################### [100%] warning: user manfred does not exist - using root 2:dvd-slideshow warning: user rainer does not exist - using root warning: group ls does not exist - using root warning: user rainer does not exist - using root%) warning: group ls does not exist - using root ########################################### [100%] 3:dvdshrink warning: user quentin does not exist - using root ########################################### [100%] warning: user quentin does not exist - using root 4:dvdwizard warning: user manfred does not exist - using root warning: user manfred does not exist - using root warning: user manfred does not exist - using root) ########################################### [100%] linux:/share1/9.3/updates # SuSEconfig Starting SuSEconfig, the SuSE Configuration Tool... For source rpm's, you have to build the binaries, "rpmbuild --rebuild xxx.src.rpm", then you can "rpm -Uvh /usr/src/packages/RPMS/i386/xxx-y.i386.rpm". Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... You're installing source rpms (.src.rpm), not data rpms. This is why you don't see anything installed. Source rpms just get copied to /usr/src/packages, they don't get registered in the rpm database. Get the real binary rpm instead and you should have better luck
