SuSE 7.3 is detecting 120GB hd with wrong size 1.8TB
hi, My suse 7.3 is detecting my WD Cavier HD WD1200JB with improper size but the HD id is detected properly (WD1200JB..). My bios for the computer also detected the id properly but size detected was 45GB and suse's detection was 1.8TB instead of 120GB. I was able to partition and mount the drive with size below ~110GB. Anything above that it will not work. I guess i could just leave it like that and not fully utilize my 120 gb, but i don't think this should be properly done. Anyone have any suggestion how to solve this problem? thanks henry
Hi Henry, I had something similar with 2x 180GB drives I bought recently. They were recognised as 6MB (yes MB) drives by a P II/333MHz machine and no more. On an AMD Athlon 1900XP box as mirrored pairs (promise 20276 RAID) they showed as 180GB but would not boot for anything (yast threw them out but fdisk allowed them). Finally I put them into a Mini-ITX PC (C3/533MHz) and they still wouldn't run with a 180GB (or anything close) partition. In the end I configured a 5GB root partition and added a 100GB /share partition using fdisk. Leaves 75GB for a rainy day :o) Obviously a limitation that someone here will tell us more about.
