[opensuse] Microphone blues
Hello folks! I'm trying to get a mike working on with Skype 1.3.0.53 on a fully patched 10.2 system. The echo test does not repeat my message. The hardware is OK: If I boot up Win 2K it all works correctly. The problem is evidently some oddball KDE or ALSA setting. For what it's worth, I've tried fiddling the Kmix microphone settings, with and without it set as Recording source, to no avail. Any thoughts would be appreciated including a relevant RTFM. Daniel

What with "Capture Control" on KMix? On my system it drops to 0 level every time and I need to set it to max every time I want to work with skype. -- Mark Goldstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Capture control? Where is that? I checked each of the dialogs. But it gave me an idea: On the third dialog "Switches", I changed the mic-in mode from the default Center/LFE/output to Mic-in, and it worked. So, problem solved and thanks anyway!

Be real. Your reply to Daniel's message was only 900 bytes shorter than his, vCard included. A little specificity man!!! Which sound chipset is in the machine? There are tons of posts around the net of people having a great deal of problem iwht some Intel High Definition Audio / Sigmatel chipsets. These are usually found on late model machines. (In fact I had a brand spanking new Dell Dimension 9200 in for a Suse 10.2 install this week. I spent a whole day trying to get that damn sound system to work with all the latest alsa versions and even surfed the intel site. I finally went into the bios, turned off the onboard sound and slapped an old PCI Sound Blaster card in and sound configured perfectly the first time. Of course I can't bill the customer for all the time I wasted on that crap intel sound system. But hey, dell saved 37¢). -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

OK. I'm using an ASUS P4B266-C MB with on board sound to wit: C-Media PCI CM8738 6ch-MX chips, if you can believe YaST.
Does that help?
