I am running 2.6.8-24.11-default on my 9.2 laptop. This is a rather old version, but I can not find where Novell hides the latests versions. Can someone point this old fart where to find a newer version for Suse? Harry G

Yup, it is from Jan 17 2005. I'm running the same version. It is rather old, but what is old? Nah, I'm kiddin' ... ;)) It's not thàt old. If you're is used to use bleeding edge kernels, then it would be "old" I guess, but *you* would know *where* to get the newest. But as ordinary users, we'd better stick to stock SUSE (or Novell) kernels. And the latest update to the stock kernel is... 2.6.8-24.11. This means you and I are up-to-date, so no need to worry. :)
but I can not find where Novell hides the latests versions.
One source is: http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/update/9.2/rpm/i586...

I could, but that would be the bleeding edge version; unless you know what you're doing, I recommend *not* to use it. Cheers, Leen

I think he was refering to there being 2.6.10 out now and we are at 2.6.8. Actually what SuSe and RedHat do is apply the patches to these kernel's from the newer ones that they believe are most important for us. So in reality the 2.6.8-24.11 is very similar to the 2.6.10 found on kernel.org. Just the version number is different. When SuSe 9.3 comes out they will include a newer kernel version. Yes, it's possible he meant that.

Ya mean "Include a new *stock* kernel"? Cheers, Leen

It is available from SuSE in the kernel of the Day directory (kotd). ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd Then navigate down from there depending on your architecture. I installed that kernel because I have not been able to hotsync my new Treo650. But, it still does not work, so I might go to kernel.org. The kernel has been stable, though. -- Jerry Feldman <gerald.feldman@hp.com> Partner Technology Access Center (contractor) (PTAC-MA) Hewlett-Packard Co. 550 King Street LKG2a-X2 Littleton, Ma. 01460 (978)506-5243
