ssh:... Connection refused
Recently, I installed Leap 15.6 on one of my two computers and gave it the name "azure", "az" and the IP address 192.168.2.17. Then, from my other computer, which still carries Leap 15.2, I tried to reach it by the command "ssh az", getting the error message: "ssh: connect to host az port 22: Connection refused" Analogous error messages I get for "ssh azure" and "ssh 192.168.2.17", as to be expected. I have already checked the .ssh root and user directories and /etc/ssh on both of my computers, not finding anything wrong. What else can I do for getting ssh access to my computer "az"? Thanks in advance and best regards, Wolfgang

And sshd is active?

No, it was not. So, I started it, set the start mode to "On Boot", and now, ssh works perfectly. Спасибо и дружба! Вольфганг

Oh, well. I still cannot bring myself to start with the "did you try to turn in on" type of question.

Oh so close :) The sshd disabled by default on install is good policy, but it does catch a lot of people by surprise. The Yast installer has the option in a list that doesn't attract attention to that fact. It may help to add a short note above the services list: "sshd is DISABLED by default in list below, enable if needed" (in red and bold...) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

No need. It is clearly written in the summary screen. I always read it carefully top to down. What is missing in the summary is a list of partitions created and or formatted and or written.. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.5 x86_64 at Telcontar)

I think that is the installer list I'm talking about where you get a list of about 8-12 services with the little "enabled" or "disabled" next to them. sshd is in that list, but unless you "always read it carefully" thinking about ssh after startup -- nothing really calls attention to the fact you will have no ssh unless you change it. You and I are used to it having run Yast for more than 20 years, other folks, even those that have installed with Yast before may (and do) miss that in the list (summary or whatever it is called) I also agree the partition summary would be helpful. But since I always have to completely redo the partitioning for ext4 -- I'm always certain of what it is -- but same issue -- for those that don't do a complete new partition scheme, etc.. a summary of what will be done would be nice. -- David C. No, there is a 3 or 4 line paragraph, that says firewall enabled|disabled, ssh enabled|disabled, and something else I don't remember. It is a simple click to change.

I read the entire summary screen word by word :-) And some years there is something new in there that is important to read, and if not read, can cause trouble. Yes, as you say I am used to YaST and its idioms :-) partitions to use for what. There is no access to see that information from the summary, you have to backpedal quite a bit to find that information, and then forward again. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
