printing trough samba, suse 8 iso, suse 8 upgrade
Hi, I have the following questions: 1. I am unable to print trough samba. But I am able to see win computers and the win computers are able to see me. I have my computer connected to a win network trough samba, my ip address is 198.198.198.7 and the computer where I want to print is a WindowsXP Home edition Machine with a single user, computer name istrate, user name istrate and password istratedenisa - ip. 198.198.198.11 (they are not the real names an passwords of course). the shared printer on winxp computer is hpcolor. Firs, When I try to setup the remote printer with yast 2, all seems to be ok, but nothing come out on the remote printer (not test page, nothing), the same for cups - trough contol center or turboprint. So, any idea how to solve this ? My machine is using suse 7.3 professional, and I use for printing the CUPS system 2. will be suse 8 available as iso images for download ? 3. because I have buying before suse 7.3 I have seen on the Internet the possibility to buy a upgrade version. What is that upgrade version ?, I will be able to install suse from scratch with that CD-s or I have to install firs my suse 7.3 and then that upgrade (like Microsoft does...) 4. Because I live in România ( Eastern Europe), I am interested if SuSe have any representance or dealer for this part of the world. If yes, my I find some phone numbers or addresses (When I have been buy SuSE before I was obligated to give money to a friend in uk - a long way and a very long time - that because ours credit card are not accepted - i understand that because we have a lot of pirates here). tanks, and I wait a reply from SuSE friends or from suse team

Dear Dorin,
I haven't tried this with WinXP, but have had very similar problems
recently with Win2000. The problem was the windows machine rejecting the
printer request due to username and password not being correct - i.e.
Access denied message.
The solution in CUPS was to specify the URL for the printer as
smb://istrate:istratedenisa@istrate/hpcolor
(smb://user:password@machine/sharename)
The other thing to check is that the encrypted passwords option needs to
be switched on in /etc/samba/smb.conf
Hope this helps,
Mark
