Jack, there is no package called gnome.... This is in total 67MB of data to be downloaded. After that you can continue to fine tune your gnome desktop. Please, let me know if the above pkgs are indeed sufficient to obtain gnome. It would also be interesting to know what other packages you installed to get gnome complete. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

That does not seem to be possible or at least not easy due to conflicts, have gnome-applets removed from the list I provided. That seems to do it. Funny thing though: The package Geramik and scrollkeeper provided by via this gnome update are older than the once provided by suse on CD/DVD. I hope that they have the same dependencies.... -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

How do I get kdm to recognize that gnome is installed and offer me an option to load it up? Or should I just try switching to gdm?

Never mind the switching to gdm. It's a bust. I don't have it installed properly because the basic display manager fired up instead and I got some "failed indicators" when I tried booting up with gdm as default manager. Unfortunately the screen showing the failures flashed by too quickly for me to see which processes failed (outside of gdm itself).

How did you install it such that it "creamed" a bunch of stuff, with so manh libs not there? Did you do this with rpm or what? My problem after the upgrade to 2.6 appears to be the gnome-settings-daemon is no longer present. Can anyone else confirm this. I really miss it as I invoke this at KDE startup to have my gnome apps look good in KDE. Thanks. I had tried to find it using the 'whereis' command to no avail. Locate returned the previous location so I'm running an 'updatedb' now. -- Cheers, Trey --- At a given moment I open my eyes and exist. And before that, during all eternity, what was there?
