My laptop has decided to stop booting. I'm running 8.0 mostly updated to date, but I am getting Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:07 The knowledgebase refers to this with different final numbers, but says pre 7.1 and says about supplying memory size in boot command - which I can't see how to change as it boots from a floppy disk. Since nothing has changed on the machine since I last booted linux ( been running W2k for a week ) what can I do to get back in? -- Lester Caine ----------------------------- L.S.Caine Electronic Services
I had the same problem with Win98 and its FAT32. I filled out all the disk space near its capacity limit and then rebooted back to Linux, but Linux partition was wrong. My idea is, Windows sometime write into other partitions as they should. Rescue mode didn't help me. _______________________________________________________________ Marek Libra Phone:+42 0776 039 948 Email: xlibra@fi.muni.cz Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University Brno, Czech Republic _______________________________________________________________

That is a distinct possibility.

Rats ... I have Partition Magic 7 - I'll give that a go - just have some bits on the disk that have not been 'replicated' to the network - sod's lay I suppose. -- Lester Caine ----------------------------- L.S.Caine Electronic Services
