Hello. I'm trying to use use Yast2 in order to create and install a new Xen VM. However, I get the following error when trying to start the installation: Failed to extract the kernel from the installation source. Please check that your installation source is accesible. These are the settings for the new VM: AutoYaST: - AutoYaST Profile: none Virtualization Mode: - Paravirtualization VM Properties: - Name of Virtual Machine: vm1 Hardware: - Memory size: 160MB - Number of Virtual CPUs: 1 - Hardware Clock: Local Time Disks: - Disk /dev/hda: Create 4096MB Image (Sparse File) - Disk /dev/hdb: Use Disk hdd (Read-Only) Network: - Number of Virtual Network Cards: 1 Operating System Installation: - Installation Device: CD/DVD Device (/dev/hdd) - Installation Options: TERM=xterm textmode=1 I'm trying to install from the OpenSUSE 10.1 RC3 CD's. Any ideas on what's going on?

I haven't been able to get the install from CD to work. The only way I did manage it was to setup a network install source as per the help in yast i.e. create folders CD1......through to CD5 and copy the CD contents into these folders then share the parent folder out with NFS. I have an Athlon 64 box currently running RC3 with 6 VMs. -- David Bottrill david@bottrill.org www.bottrill.org Registered Linux user number 330730 Internet Free World Dialup: 683864

I tried using an NFS install. YaST adds the NFS repository, but fails with exactly the same error message: Failed to extract the kernel from the installation source. Any additional ideas?

You need to make sure that the NFS share is the folder containing the CD folders. For example / /local/ .....................Do not export this folder by NFS suse/ .............This is where the NFS export should be CD1 CD2 CD3 CD4 CD5 This is the only way I could get it to work. and the YAST install source would be: /local/suse/CD1 -- David Bottrill david@bottrill.org www.bottrill.org Registered Linux user number 330730 Internet Free World Dialup: 683864
Hi, I could use YaST VM manager for paravi...only with network install, either. I used HTTP install server of my second SUSE machine(SUSE10.0). The install server is very easy using yast2instserver. I was told installation from CD is only available for Vanderpools. http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-users/2006-04/msg01141.html Really? -- noniko noniko@netbeans.jp Blogs: http://www.jroller.com/page/Noniko/Weblog (Broken English) http://www.myblog.de/noniko (Worse German)
