Re: [SLE] unable to save KDE settings in SuSE 8.0
Sorry, I'm not entirely sure what you mean?
Basically all the dot-files in your homedir should be owned by you:users The erason I thought of this, is that when I upgraded to kde3.0.1 some of the files ended up being owned by root, which naturally meant that I (my useraccount) couldn't write to them. So I thought your problem sounded similar.
Similarly the dotfiles in root's homedir should be owned by root
Are you talking about being logged into kde as you, or as root?
thanks, jon i am sorry i didn't explain my problem properly. i installed suse 8.0 recently. on startup, i logged in as root, and made some changes via "Control Centre'"-->"Look & Feel"-->"Background". e.g. i changed the background red colour to blue. on logging off, and restarting , the above mentioned KDE settings are lost. on the other hand, i repeat above procedure as an ordinary user, the settings are permanent. info: KDE version :3.0.0 uname -a : Linux p278 2.4.18-64GB-SMP #1 SMP Wed Mar 27 13:58:12 UTC 2002 i686 unknown if i add a new program icon to the panel, in which file in <home>/.kde/ directory does the entry get saved?
btw, this didn't go to the list. I don't mind, but you'll get more (maybe even better) help if we keep it on the list... :)
i am sorry, i didn't notice that i did not post onto the suse list. TIA, anand.
