Over the past couple of days I have been messing around with cron
to see
if it will auto start the modem and kmail. The modem starts up
fine,
dials in and logs on with no problem. But, for some strange
reason
kmail refuses to start up. I have checked the logs in
/var/spool/mail/****** and here are some of the responces :-

If you're the only person using the machine, you can set the environment variable DISPLAY in your crontab file. For example: "DISPLAY=:0" (without the quotes). Now, kmail will know which X windows screen to start on. If you need something a little more sophisticated, I've got a script that runs X windows programs only when you're logged in (it's just skipped otherwise). It was writtem specifically for use in cron.
