[opensuse] Monitor Problems
Hi, In SuSE 10.2 I had to alter xorg.conf for my Samsung Syncmaster 225BW to work properly. Unfortunately my modifications do not work in SuSE 10.3. Has something changed in SuSE 10.3 concerning how xorg.conf works? What can I do to debug what is happening in that file? In SuSE 10.3 the screen is always set to some default that I did not give that has a resolution of 1400x1050 rather than the 1680x1050 that I specified. Here are the modifications that I gave to the xorg.conf file: Section "Monitor" Identifier "SyncMaster225BW" Option "DPMS" DisplaySize 474 296 HorizSync 30.0 - 81.0 VertRefresh 56.0 - 75.0 Modeline "1680x1050" 146.2 1680 1784 1960 2240 1050 1053 1059 1089 EndSection and replaced Monitor[0] with SyncMaster225BW in the "Screen" section. This setup worked perfectly in SuSE 10.2 Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

This Samsung is a LCD monitor, right? In which case you don't need the modeline above. Start Sax2 and then select "LCD" as the generic monitor to configure (I take it that your monitor is not being recognised by the setup as a Samsung Syncmaster). There select your resolution and everything else should automatically fall into place. Karl, After installing 10.3 I reconfigured my monitor (Samsung Syncmaster 245B) so I could have 3D and better graphics. The Vendor and Name section did not have my monitor listed so I inserted the CD that came with the monitor and clicked on the Utility Disk button. Yast took the correct info from the CD and applied it to my xorg.conf file. Everything is working very nicely.
