Re: [S.u.S.E. Linux] Nubie Yast Question:
If you open yast and select "Choose/Install packages", then choose "Install packages" (the third item from the bottom on this menu). The screen that comes up is a horizontally split window with "Source: (none)" highlighted blue in the upper left hand corner. Hit the down arrow and you are given a choice of "Directory, FTP, Source medium, or Floppy" (this is how you update via ftp and suse's ftp server, too). Select "Directory" and point to your rpm's. I installed beta-3 via ftp (even while using kde as my window manager while doing it) and it worked perfect. Good luck michael Chris Herrnberger wrote:
Sorry for this question, but Im trying to learn the operation of Yast. Example:
Say I download a program in rpm format (eg: KDE beta 3.1)and download it to a directory in /root/download. Can I use Yast to install and configure the program and if so how? Or must this be undertaken by hand?
Currently I have installed several programs, netscape 3.0.4, Communicator 4.0.4, ezppp and StarOffice4.0. However all of these programs have been installed by hand so to speak with help from on line doumentation. Was wondering if Yast can be used to undertake this process instead. This is a stand alone system, running SuSE 5.1
TIA
