waves on a samsung lcd monitor
After installing suse I don't get the monitor right. This is a samsung 19" lcd monitor type: 192V. The monitor keeps on showing some kind of waves from the bottom of the screen to the top. It is not present dominantly, but the view is just not crystal clear as it is under MS :( What can this be, does any one (hmm guru probably) know? The nasty side effect of this, is that the owner keeps on configuring the screen, after which he gets xdm instead of kdm. As he is not able to change this setting, it makes it all (s)useles :( -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

A quick guess would be incorrect vertical refresh rate. Check the manual which came with your monitor and see if XF86Config or XOrgConfig (or whatever the new name is) and see if the vertical and horizontal refresh/scan rates are correct. If not, edit/correct them and reboot X. I had a similar problem with my NEC LCD1912, vertical rate was wrong for the default LCD listing for XF86Config. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery

Ed and Patrick, thanks for suggestions. Ed: where and how do I add geometry? Is it in the monitor section: Section "Monitor" Geometry XxY ... EndSection BTW the 192N does not seem to be similar to 192V http://www.samsung.com/search/search.asp?qt=192v&la=en&col=wu+wsimsi+download&tabpage=1&radio=1&select=0&x=0&y=0# -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

I have a samsung 172v tft, and had problems configuring it too. I used the Samsung provided driver cd in yast (hardware > graphics cards
monitor > manufacturer's disk).
