I just added a Fujitsu IDE removable drive to an existing SuSE 7.1 system. The boot msgs show that it is recognized correctly but fdisk -l /dev/hda simply returns the cmd prompt without output. I suspect that this is related to 'scsi-ide emulation' or such. Can anyone please point me in the right direction? Would a 'raw' SuSE install have found this drive and set up the system correctly? I don't think it has something to do with ide-scsi, I thought ide-scsi is only for atapi devices, not for hard disks. Would a 'raw' SuSE install have found this drive and set up the system correctly? I don't think that would make a difference, you can of course start a fresh install and abort the moment in wants to do the destructive stuff (creating filesystems, writing partition tables)

Right, NO OUTPUT! a fdisk -l only shows my scsi disks, but if I go to YAST disk mgmt section the ide removable is there but 'grayed out', it can't be selected! ..... PeterB dieter wrote:

I'm sorry but I really have no idea here. This hard disk is atapi optical. I have never heard of such a device or how to get it to work. Maybe someone else on this list?
