[SuSE Linux] 3Com Network interface card.... Trouble shooting HELP
Hi There I have tryed for the last two weeks, to get my 3Com network interface card to work with Samba Server... but without any luck. It seens like at can't "ping" the interface from another machine (Win98, Win95, WinNT and Mac). But it's okay from the machine itself. I am using 3c59x as a driver. System tells me that the card is working okay, when i look in the log files. But i do get some error about socket address 0.0.0.0 port 139 already used. Machine hardware: CPU: Intel 400Mhz Motherboard: ASUS P2B Network Interface: 3Com Fast Etherlink XL 10/100Mb TX Ethernet NIC (3C905B-TX) I am new at this Linux thing.... so please help me. Does your enet card work for normal TCP/IP communications within the LAN? -------------------------------------------- Brad Shelton bshelton@ole.net On Line Exchange <A HREF="http://ole.net</A">http://ole.net</A> Detroit News <A HREF="http://detnews.com</A">http://detnews.com</A> - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

One known problem with this card is that if you use it with Windows, you must cold boot into Linux (complete power down). A warm boot won't do it. Sam jakob evers wrote:

I am on a campus that has just employed a dhcp service and I am newbie to the networking set up of a un*x workstation. Upon running the dhcpcd command I get the following: eth0: 3c509 at 0x300 tag1, AUI port, address 00 60 97 97 43 84, IRQ 5 3c509.c: 1.12 6/4/97 becker@cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov eth0: Setting Rx mode to 1 addresses and then nothing happens. I have ^C'd out of the process impatiently and have no connectivity. What do these statements above mean?, and how can I tell if my card is setup properly? I am sending this under Windoze '95 on the same machine I am dual booting with Linux. Oh, Thanx in advance, I have been reading this list for a few weeks now and have learned alot. thanks Matt Proud Member of the Fightin Texas Aggie Class of '01 - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>
