[opensuse] 3ware 3w-xxxx.o kernel module
All, I've got a oS 11.2 machine with an old 3ware IDE raid controller. It runs the drives fine (and has for years), but I need to rebuild the array and admin of the array via tw_cli is telling me to load 3w-xxxx.o == # tw_cli Please load the 3ware controller driver (3w-xxxx.o). == I used to have it on that machine, but apparently no longer. Where can I find it? Greg -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

modinfo modinfo 3w-xxxx as root , does it say anything ? module is available at least in 11.3 why it isnt loading automatically, is something we need to figure out. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Well, modinfo says I have it for my kernel Forensic1000:/lib # uname -a Linux Forensic1000 2.6.31.12-0.2-default #1 SMP 2010-03-16 21:25:39 +0100 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux # modinfo 3w-xxxx filename: /lib/modules/2.6.31.12-0.2-default/kernel/drivers/scsi/3w-xxxx.ko version: 1.26.02.002 license: GPL description: 3ware Storage Controller Linux Driver author: AMCC srcversion: 770317484788246149D9F0F alias: pci:v000013C1d00001001sv*sd*bc*sc*i* alias: pci:v000013C1d00001000sv*sd*bc*sc*i* depends: vermagic: 2.6.31.12-0.2-default SMP mod_unload modversions 586TSC But I can't insmod or modprobe it. Forensic1000:/lib # insmod 3w-xxxx.ko insmod: can't read '3w-xxxx.ko': No such file or directory Forensic1000:/lib # modprobe 3w-xxxx.ko FATAL: Module 3w_xxxx.ko not found. try:
# modprobe 3w-xxxx
Well, I thought you had it: # modprobe 3w-xxxx # lsmod | grep 3w 3w_xxxx 26432 9 But 3w_cli is still asking for it. Strange. # tw_cli Please load the 3ware controller driver (3w-xxxx.o). === Well it looks like the version of tw_cli on that machine is 7 years old. # ls -l /sbin/tw_cli /usr/local/bin/tw_cli -rwx------ 1 root root 473420 2003-12-29 16:41 /sbin/tw_cli -rwx------ 1 root root 473420 2003-08-18 12:58 /usr/local/bin/tw_cli I did say this machine had been running for years. Fortunately, I had a newer version and it's now working on that machine! Many thanks for helping me over the stumbling block called my brain.
