[SLE] SUSE 6.3 kernel build, plus pcmcia (ATA/IDE), plus usb(ZIP)
I have a Pico Direct Consul laptop, and wish to run the Zip drive from the USB port. 1) Building the kernels 2.3.31(from SUSE discs) or 2.3.48 (latest download), I seem to lose an essential component of PCMCIA - ide_cs. Can anyone advise me on this: I cannot find the source (ide_cs.c ???) or any name convesrion from something else. Nor can I use the 2.2.13 ide_cs.o, for the kernel notices it is the wrong build. Should later pcmcia systems use this, or something else? 2) When I try to insmod usb-ohci, I get the message "Device or resource busy". I also tried the other usb-uhci, with the same result, and cannot build ohci-hcd mentioned in the linux-usb/HOWTO. This happens with a Zip drive connected and with nothing connected to the usb port. Can anyone advise me on this. 3) I can provide more specific detail if it will help the good works, and if advised what to seek out. Firstly, why are you getting a development kernel? The 2.2.13 kernel from SuSE includes the USB backported from 2.3. With the proper package selection, you should not need anything that is not included on the CDs. PCMCIA and USB support included. IIRC, there is an SDB article concerning the use of USB devices with the 2.2.13.SuSE kernel... -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions -o) jpennington@atipa.com | Kansas City, MO /\\ 816-241-2641 x107 | http://www.atipa.com _\_V -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

I downloaded kernel-2.2.14 the other day and was looking for the USB options, and could not find them in the options. Is there a special patch? -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Because it's not in a stock 2.2.14 kernel, but in the 2.2.13.SuSE kernel. You may try (with varying success rates) to apply a .14 patch to the .13.SuSE tree, if you must have USB *and* .14 improvements, but it may or may not work. -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions -o) jpennington@atipa.com | Kansas City, MO /\\ 816-241-2641 x107 | http://www.atipa.com _\_V -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Thank you, and other advisors. I shall try this route and report back. > Firstly, why are you getting a development kernel? - The facilities of 2.2.13.SuSE you mention were not obvious.
