[opensuse] Install of 11.2 hangs
I am trying to install openSuSE 11.2 and no joy... I got through the first part of the install process, OK where all the files and copied from my dvd to disk, and then was asked to reboot my system.. Starts up and reaches an Initializing... screen that says "Preparing the 1st system configuration..." and hangs... Mouse cursor works rather jerky but clicking on the Help button does nothing... So, any ideas on how to proceed? Thanks in advance for any offers of help! I didn't get any takers to my request for help, so will try again. Whether I install 11.2 with automatic or manual configuration I cannot proceed past the screen which says "Preparing the 1st system configuration" (After all the packages have been installed..) So I rebooted back to 11.0 and mounted the partition where I tried to install 11.2 as /SuSE11.2 in my 11.0 system. That allows me to take a look at things, so I first started with the log files to see if I could learn anything interesting... Can't say I have, but a couple things kinda jump out - The last few lines in the y2log file for YaST2 seem to indicate it was configuring the keyboard??? when the configuration process hung - bigbang:/SuSE11.2/var/log/YaST2 # tail y2log 2009-12-10 13:10:44 <1> linux(2957) [YCP] Keyboard.ycp:509 Description for keyboard <english-us>: <["English (US)", $["ncurses":"us.map.gz"]]> 2009-12-10 13:10:44 <1> linux(2957) [YCP] Keyboard.ycp:520 x11data=$["Apply":"-layout us -model microsoftpro", "XkbLayout":"us", "XkbModel":"microsoftpro"] 2009-12-10 13:10:44 <1> linux(2957) [YCP] XVersion.ycp:30 X11 paths: $["bindir":"/usr/bin", "driver64path":"/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers", "driverpath":"/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers", "executable":"Xorg -noreset", "fontdir":"/usr/share/fonts", "includedir":"/usr/include", "infodir":"/usr/info", "lib64dir":"/usr/lib64", "libdir":"/usr/lib", "mandir":"/usr/man", "orgconftempl":"/etc/X11/xorg.conf.template", "sharedir":"/usr/share", "startpath":"", "vncparam":""] 2009-12-10 13:10:44 <1> linux(2957) [YCP] Keyboard.ycp:623 Restored data (sysconfig) for keyboard: <english-us> 2009-12-10 13:10:44 <1> linux(2957) [wfm] Y2WFMComponent.cc(SCRSetDefault):335 Setting default SCR: 1 2009-12-10 13:10:44 <1> linux(2957) [YCP] installation/inst_inc_all.ycp:57 Disabling Energy Star (DPMS) features 2009-12-10 13:10:44 <1> linux(2957) [YCP] installation/inst_inc_second.ycp:296 Case: failed 2009-12-10 13:10:44 <1> linux(2957) [qt-ui] YQApplication.cc(headingFont):355 Loaded 24 pixel bold font: ,-1,24,5,75,0,0,0,0,0 2009-12-10 13:10:44 <1> linux(2957) [ui] YPushButton.cc(setFunctionKey):183 Guessing button role YOKButton for YPushButton "Yes" at 0x7f92980051e8 from function key F10 2009-12-10 13:10:44 <1> linux(2957) [ui] YPushButton.cc(setFunctionKey):183 Guessing button role YCancelButton for YPushButton "No" at 0x18b35b8 from function key F9 and the Xorg.0.log file contains a couple of error messages - bigbang:/SuSE11.2/var/log # grep '(EE)' Xorg.0.log (WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown. Not much to go on, I know. Dunno what else to look for... Nothing interesting in the boot.msg, faillog, messages or warn logs that I can see...
