PPC Edition: why so few packages?
Howdy, I'm just wondering, why is it that the SuSE 7.1 for PPC has only 1000 packages, vs. x86's 2000? Are half of all Linux apps not compilable on PPC (I find that quite hard to belive)? Or did SuSE just not think it was worth the effort? Are they too short handed in their PPC department? I know it didn't work out as well as hoped, but I remember discussion threads before where the design of Linux was supposed to aid in multi-architectural programming by providing a standard interface/API to system calls and so on. ---------------------------------------------------- Jonathan Wilson System Administrator Cedar Creek Software http://www.cedarcreeksoftware.com Central Texas IT http://www.centraltexasit.com

What do you wish ? SuSE Linux 7.1 for PPC has 6 !! CDs. There is really no reason to worry about. And yes, there are a lot of packages which are Intel specific or doesn't make sense on PPC or other architectures. It is incredibly powerful, gives terse, cryptic answers and has a lot of things going on in the background.
