[opensuse] OpenSuSE+bounces PROBLEM IN OpenSuSE list
According to the maintainers of MyRealBox the problem with the munging of senders addresses on this list into OpenSuSE+bounces is coming from the OpenSuSE list software. To whom do I write to correct this long standing problem. ? CWSIV -------- Forwarded Message -------- From: Jeff Dalby I received your voicemail. I looked at this again but the address you are seeing is the address that is being given to us by the remote system. You'll see that multiple times in the header as well (our software doesn't touch the existing header info). Feel free to send me on some new headers but so far everything points to a problem on the remote side. ml-admin@opensuse.org is responsible for the mailing lists. But I don't understand what you're talking about, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, aj@{novell.com,opensuse.org} Twitter: jaegerandi | Identica: jaegerandi SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

Do you have a bug# ? If it's been around for so long, surely it's been reported properly by now. Oh btw, _what_ exactly is the problem? /Per -- Per Jessen, Zürich (21.1°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

To the mail list administrator, as you were told before.

He has reported it previously, but here, instead of to the admin.
Oh btw, _what_ exactly is the problem?

There is no problem here, except maybe with your email provider. The 'senders'
address is not being "munged". Take some time to check the email headers
yourself, sounds like your email provider needs a little tickle with the clue
bat.
From your email, here is the sender header:

If only the mail server was within reach.

The addresses in the email headers with "OpenSuSE+bounces" are the return path headers/addresses used by the list software. This is normal, the format of the return path address is fine.
e.g. Return-Path:
The problem is not on this email but on the primary cwsiv at MyRealBox.com. It appears it sends our false bounces a lot. I know its beta but until this year it was reliable and the spam filtering excellent. Now its a problem.
Sounds very much like "MyRealBox" has some issues with handling email list messages. If your email service provider has issues with well formatted email headers, I think the advice would be to change provider.
I have backups for that reason. It may be that their latest upgrade was not so smart, kind of like the move away from Yast to Yupper and its cousins. CWSIV -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

it seems both OpenSuSe maintainer and MyRealBox blame the other to no resolution. Its a shame really until Messaging Archetects took over MyRealBox worked fine. CWSIV -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

One of the most basic tenants of troubleshooting is to determine what has changed since the last known time it worked then look for the cause there. Nothing I am aware of has changed with openSuSE lists (plural) or its' manager. I am also not aware of any others with a problem like yours that could be traced to the (very static) method the openSuSE lists operate. Given that even for you, MyRealBox worked 'until "Messaging Archetects" took over the product, then your problems started with no changes in the way openSuSE lists were/are handled, there can be little doubt where the problem lies. If they cannot/will not own up to the issue and fix it, the advice quoted above to change providers is well founded.
