OS: SuSE 9.2 Pro (with all current patches) Printer: OkiData OL410e/ps in HP PCL mode I just noticed my printer no longer prints showing two jobs in the queue, #57 and 58. The following processes involving the print subsystem are showing up: (lines folded for readability) UID PID PPID C STIME TTY TIME CMD lp 3474 1 0 Nov25 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/cupsd postfix 4704 18698 0 Nov25 ? 00:00:01 qmgr -l -t fifo -u lp 15566 3474 0 Nov25 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/perl /usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip 57 root (stdin) 1 lp 15567 3474 0 Nov25 ? 00:00:00 parallel:/dev/lp0 57 root (stdin) 1 lp 15568 15566 0 Nov25 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/perl /usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip 57 root (stdin) 1 lp 15569 15568 0 Nov25 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/perl /usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip 57 root (stdin) 1 lp 15570 15568 0 Nov25 ? 00:00:00 sh -c gs '-dBATCH' '-dPARANOIDSAFER' '-dQUIET' '-dNOPAUSE' '-sDEVICE=ijs' '-sIjsServer=hpijs' '-sDeviceManufacturer=HEWLETT-PACKARD' '-sDeviceModel=HP LaserJet' '-dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=612' '-dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=792' '-dDuplex=false' '-r300' '-sIjsParams=Quality:Quality=1,Quality:ColorMode=0, Quality:MediaType=0,Quality:PenSet=0, PS:MediaPosition=7' '-dIjsUseOutputFD' '-sOutputFile=| cat >&3' '/dev/fd/0' 3>&1 1>&2 lp 15571 15570 0 Nov25 ? 00:00:00 gs -dBATCH -dPARANOIDSAFER -dQUIET -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=ijs -sIjsServer=hpijs -sDeviceManufacturer=HEWLETT-PACKARD -sDeviceModel=HP LaserJet -dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=612 -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=792 -dDuplex=false -r300 -sIjsParams=Quality:Quality=1,Quality:ColorMode=0, Quality:MediaType=0,Quality:PenSet=0, PS:MediaPosition=7 -dIjsUseOutputFD -sOutputFile=| cat >&3 /dev/fd/0 lp 15572 15571 0 Nov25 ? 00:00:00 sh -c cat >&3 lp 15573 15571 0 Nov25 ? 00:00:00 hpijs lp 15574 15572 0 Nov25 ? 00:00:00 cat I checked to make sure the parallel cable was tight and tried power cycling the printer to no avail. The printer has worked since the 9.2 install until yesterday evening. I do seem to remember installing a cups upgrade via YoU to v 1.1.19-5.3 which may or may not be a factor. Has anyone else noticed this? What can I do about it? Finally, is there a way to check to see just when the cups update was applied? Thank you, Lucky Leavell

I.e. it can print plain ASCII text directly. Therefore test the connection as described in the manual and http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2000/08/jsmeix_print-einrichten.html http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2002/04/jsmeix_print-device-parallel.html If it doesn't print then check whether or not the necessary kernel modules (parport, parport_pc and lp) are loaded. If not, load them using modprobe parport modprobe parport_pc modprobe lp Regards Johannes Meixner -- SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstrasse 5 Mail: jsmeix@suse.de 90409 Nuernberg, Germany WWW: http://www.suse.de/
