First of all I'd like to thank all those who offered to help me through their experience and deep system knowledge. As soon as I have some time I really wish to download those MS-compatible fonts to supplement OO. But today I gave CrossOver a last try and miraculously it worked. The trick is to create a virtual mount-point for the CD where the files markes "hidden" by MS can be read by SuSE. Basically it's just the following command: # su # mount -t iso9660 -o unhide /dev/hdc /tmp/cd Choose the "Other" option on CrossOver graphic menu to lead it to install from an alternate CD location, namely '/tmp/cd'. This way MS Office/XP gets installed with no problem whatsoever. I tried to start both Power Point and Word from the CrossOver menu. They work the same as on Windows. I also downloaded MathType from: https://webmail.ornl.gov/redirect?http://www.dessci.com/en/products/mathtype... This is an add-on package that, when installed on Windows, is automatically hooked up to the MS Office programs. It help generating much better symbols and Greek letters. in math expressions. It's also very easy to use. What is downloaded is just a ".exe" file. Out of ignorance I accepted all the installation defaults whlie keeping my fingers crossed. Guess what .... When I then started Power Point from the CrossOver menu, and selected Insert->Object->MicroSoft Math Expression miraculously MathType graphic window popped up just as it does in a native Windows environment. The integration was performed automatically ... which I really did not expect ... Thank you again for all your help. Maura

Hi Maura, This is excellent news, given you're on a tight schedule and must collaborate without too much delay fussing around with your system. And you are extremely considerate and thoughtful dropping back in to share your experience and a description of the successful procedure with us. Thanks for that and good luck with your presentations! - Carl
Congratulations Maura!!! Now that you have MS Office installed on your system, when your project is over you can play around with OOo and MS Office to see how they interact with each other. That way you can fine tune the process, and with the next project you'll be a pro using just Open Office when you collaberate with your colleagues that are using Microsoft products. Good luck with the project, and thanks for keeping us in the loop! Bernd
