-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 What do you mean ? If you want tech support beyond the install-support, you can always purchase their tech-support contract ? http://www.suse.de/en/services/support/index.html Don't expect free support for free software. They don't make a load of money selling packages, given that the printing cost alone must be pretty near the retail price of the package. .·°º{ why don't you create your own distro if your'e disgruntled ? } - -tosi Art Fore (þriðjudagur 30. apríl 2002 23:42)

I don't know if I would call it a weakness. I think it is a strength that we can all support (as opposed to "flame", although "differences of opinion" are bound to occur from time to time) each other. I've several non responses to questions I have posted, but generally speaking what I've learnt and the assistance I've received has been great! Eddie On Wednesday 01 May 2002 00:42, Art Fore wrote:

Well, Art, give them a break ... For what free OS is tech support supposed to be better? The upgrade (which you can start with if you don't want printed manuals) cost me something like 40 pounds, delivered to the door. I'm having some problems with a default install of 8.0 too, but they'll get resolved shortly, no doubt. But how could it be imagined that any young company that's achieving what SuSE has achieved could afford to pay the salaries of enough skilled people to answer all the questions that could arise in installing a leading-edge OS with 7 cds worth of programs on them? It can't be done for the money we're paying them, and people won't work free. Just do the sums. The distro would have to cost hundreds. Also, I must say that I hear very few people talking about how great the tech support is for commercial OSes. You may be right that the support is the list - but it's worked a lot better for me than any 'official' source of help for any software product. Best Fergus
