Linux? I don't think it will be possible. That will be an 8088/86 class machine. Minimum for the kernel was, I think, a 386. Perhaps minix, but I'm unsure. The disk can be formatted on another machine, perhaps. It will be old as well (step motor class). Using Linux will not be possible, I believe, for what I said above. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. 32 Mb of memory is a Pentium-class. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Actually, it could be a 386. He appears to have 32 MB of memory and I used to run OS/2 on a 386 with 4 MB. He makes no mention about the disk though. Things like "extended memory" refer to the hack memory access of DOS. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Ah, I didn't notice the extended memory part. It could be a Pentium I. The OP should say what CPU the machine has, what is already installed, dvd/cdrom/floppy drive... Type and size of HD... Probably a text mode linux live would do it. Graphical mode live, dunno. Perhaps after it has a swap partition. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. I don't understand. Are you asking us to help you install freedos? This list is about linux, not freedos. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 11.2 x86_64 "Emerald" GM (Elessar))

This sounds like my one of my 486's last running a SuSE 7.2. The new installers do not like so little RAM so you might need to enable swap early in the install process. I did an install this way, once the install was complete the second swap area was reformatted and became /home Machines of this vintage might not boot from CD Using an older or floppy based distro might be easier, have had good luck with Slack and puppy on older machines. Giving us more details will get better answers. -- Collector of vintage computers http://www.ncf.ca/~ba600 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
